CHALLENGE SERIES - ROUND 1

25/10/08 - 'Moore Engineering' Murray Bridge Speedway

The V6 Sprint Challenge series kicked off at the Moore Engineering Murray Bridge venue. The event was held over 3 x 10 lap heats, an A & B dash, with a 20 lap feature. A field of 15 cars nominated for the first round including Victorian Scott Bobstchinski from Mildura, taking on locals Nick and Ben Hall, Graham Bones Knuckey, just to name e few.

The A main was set to be a cracker with plenty of action earlier in the heat 1 , the #44 of Chad Allman was the first casualty going over in turn one, Also making contact Mark Brown #25 and John McKenzie #16 were excluded suffering damage. Heat 1 the win go to #7 Kelvin Burns from #17 Sam Putland 2nd. and #8 Nick Hall charging hard in #3rd. Heat 2 saw Kelvin Burns out with a broken coupling, when the green flag dropped cars were three wide in the first turn, #14 Brendan Quinn, New comer to the V6 Sprints showing good car speed took the win ahead of #28 Lee Payne 2nd  and Graham “BONES” Knuckey #78 for 3rd. Heat 3 Nick Hall #8 won in style while 2nd place #18 Darryl Knuckey battled hard to stay in front of an attacking #71 Ben Hall for 3rd.

The Grid positions for the A & B dash were set in a reverse grid based on highest points to lowest for the heat races. #9 Kate Wiese qualified on pole for the A dash taking out the 6 lap race in record time (1min 27sec).Nick Hall worked hard from the back of the pack to finish in 2nd with Lethal Lee Payne holding on to 3rd.The B dash had interstate challenger #20 Scott Bobstchinski started on the outside of Colin James in the #24 car locked side by side at the green flag heading into turn one, Ben Hall #71 diving to the bottom made it three wide completing the pass going on to take the dash. Brendan Quinn #14 carving through the field from the back to finish 2nd, Sam Putland #17 moving forward gaining valuable points in 3rd.

The feature was next on the card, with 10 cars making up the field, #18 Darryl Knuckey unable to start his car having to sit out the main event. Conditions were tricky with the track losing moisture some able to find a set up that would see them surge to the front, the race went full distance with out a stoppage. At the drop of the green flag starting off the pole #9 Kate Wiese standing hard on the gas took the lead going into the first turn, building a handy lead whilst the rest sorted themselves out. Nick Hall #8 caught up to Kate in the middle stages of the race, completing the pass going on to win the first round of the V6 Sprint Challenge. Ben Hall #71 on the attack making a late charge, found it difficult to get past contending with lap traffic also. Ben was able to squeeze past Kate and hold on to 2nd with a couple to go, Kate having a great drive finishing 3rd at the line with #14 Brendan Quinn 4th making a good start to series chase.
