CHALLENGE SERIES - ROUND 7

21/02/09 - Waikerie 'Sunline' Speedway

HALL TAKES CHALLENGE SERIES

Nick Hall won the final round of the V6 Sprint Challenge Series at Waikerie Speedway to claim the 08/09 Series Championship. Hall started on the front row of the 20 lap final, lead almost every lap and the only challenge by Graham BONES Knuckey. In the end Hall reigned supreme as he has all season to date, celebrating his victory with his signature HURRICANE dust storm.

 HEAT 1

Scott Bobstchinski v20 starting on the outside of Lee Payne s28 got the jump into the first turn & pulled a gap on the pack, while Nick Hall SA1 and Graham Knuckey s78 made short work on s7 Kelvin Burns and set out after Payne. The HURRICANE was on a charge catching up to Lee Payne s28 & put an inside move on the s28 car when LEETHAL got up in the loose stuff and backed the car into the wall bringing on the caution lights. On the restart Scott Bobstchinski v20 would lead the field to the chequered flag to finish ahead of a hard charging Nick Hall SA1 with Graham Knuckey chasing home in 3rd.

DNF.

Lee Payne s28 bent radius rod, while Kate Wiese had a deflated rear tyre when s12 Chris James ran into the back of her s9 Green Machine. Chris James had front end damage.

 HEAT 2

Chad Allman s44 started on pole for Heat 2 leading the pack to the first turn, Allman in the Bridgestone Select sponsored s44 pulled away from the s18 Daryl Knuckey, with s78 Graham Knuckey and SA1 Nick Hall slotted in behind.  Graham Knuckey managed to pass Daryl and push forward after Allman. Graham Knuckey caught up to Chad Allman and made his move for the lead, soon after passing the caution lights came on as Kelvin Burns had spun in turn 1-2. On the restart Allman was back in front with Graham Knuckey (who had been sent back a spot for a driving penalty).  At the drop of the green light Chad Allman standing on the gas had the PROFESSOR Daryl Knuckey s18 on his tail. Allman going wide allowed Daryl to move past for the lead, followed by Graham Knuckey pressing hard when Allman went wide once more which allowed Graham to pass. Nick Hall was right behind all the action and next in line. Unfortunately Chad not having much luck ran wide again that allowed Hall to pass. The finishing order would be Daryl Knuckey 1st followed by his nephew Graham Knuckey, then SA1 Nick Hall and Chad Allman holding on to 4th.

DNF.

Kelvin Burns broken torsion arm

DASH A

Kate Wiese s9 started on the front row and bolted at the drop of the green flag to win the dash ahead of Graham Knuckey s78 charging past LEETHAL Lee Payne s28 who managed to hang onto 3rd place.

DASH B

Nick Hall SA1 wasted no time moving to the front to win in comfortable style qualifying for a front row starting position in the A main. Chris James s12 was the early leader but had no answer for Hall, however James was able to hang on to 2nd ahead of Scott Bobstchinski v20 came home 3rd.

 A MAIN

Nick Hall SA1 lead the field to the first turn with Graham Knuckey making quick work of Kate Wiese moving into 2nd position  sticking on the tail of the State Champ, while back in the pack Chris James and Lee Payne were having a great battle swapping positions, James s12 coming out the better on this occasion. Daryl Knuckey s18 passed Bobstchinski v20 only to spin onto the infield but regained composure & was able to rejoin the field.  The action up front was hotting up with Nick Hall getting loose out of turn 4 and Graham Knuckey got the run on him down the inside to complete the move and take over the front running position Hall had no answer for BONES Knuckey s78 who was in good form.  The action lights came on after LEETHAL Lee Payne s28 had the car hooked up and biked  in turn 3 rolling over in which must seem like ground hog day for the South Aussie charger. On the restart Graham Knuckey had been put back 2 places for an illegal pass on Nick Hall (I’m not so sure about that HMMMM). Nick led the field with Kate right behind, that wouldn’t last long with a disgruntled Knuckey going around the outside to move to 2nd place. With the laps closing in SA1 Nick Hall was able to hold onto the lead right to the finish ahead of a frustrated Graham Knuckey s78 in 2nd place, Kate Wiese s9 drove a consistent race to finish 3rd with Scott Bobstchinski v20 4th.
