Smithfield Crash Repairs

Challenge Series Final

Westline Speedway Whyalla played host to the final round of the Smithfield Crash Repairs Lightning sprint series. On a billiard table smooth race surface, Darryl Knuckey claimed his second feature race win for the 09/10 series.

HEAT 1

The first heat would see Michael Buxallen driving the U-PULL IT s69 car start on the outside of the front row, when the green flag dropped the most experience driver in the field new just how to take advantage of the situation. Buxallen lead the race from flag to flag notching up his first heat win in the series, Bart Pascoe driving the Black Bandit Ellis chassis s71 entry secured 2nd place holding off Mark Henry in the s28 Team Voyage across the line in 3rd place. Sam Putland crossed the line in 2nd however was penalized 2 positions.

 HEAT 2

Kate Wiese s9 BIOCYCLE Stealth started heat 2 on the pole, taking control of the race at the drop of the green claiming the heat win unchallenged. Daryl Knuckey in the DK Fabrications s18 finished in 2nd with Sam Chapman driving his KI-KI Engineering s3 Murphy chassis home in 3rd place. Bart Pascoe s71 Black Bandit retired from the race with a broken front axel.

DASH

A perfectly executed outside pass around the Series leader Sam Putland propelled Darryl Knuckey to a stunning win in the Smithfield crash repairs dash. Putland finished in 2nd ahead of Kate Wiese s9 in 3rd and Michael Buxallen s69 4th.

FEATURE

The feature field assembled with Knuckey and Putland on the front row, while Wiese and Buxallen shared row two. Henry and Chapman were next in line; Darryl Knuckey surged to the front at the green, with Putland in chase. Despite his best efforts Putland had nothing for the Professor; as Darryl Knuckey s18 went on to win his second feature race of the series. Kate Wiese s9 was eventual 2nd place finisher ahead of Sam Chapman s3, Sam Putland was in desperate need of a lawn mower as he was trimming the infield and being penalized for it finishing 4th. Buxallen s69 finished 5th and Mark Henry s28 in 6th place.

Well this is a wrap for another Trak Yak
